Warmth Without Weight

Meet the Mayu, our new ultralight and uncompromising PAKAFILL® outerwear.

Since PAKA started, we’ve been on a journey to create the best outdoor apparel from natural fibers. Throughout that journey, we’ve been pioneering an insulation that could deliver the highest warmth to weight ratio on the market.

That product is now here with our Mayu Ultralight outerwear collection. The Mayu jacket and vest are the next evolution of PAKAFILL®, our patented insulation made from traceable alpaca fiber, to create the warmest, lightest, and most sustainable jacket imaginable.

PAKAFILL® was already lighter and warmer than traditional synthetic insulations - and with Mayu, we refined every stitch, trim, zipper, and baffle until we created a jacket that feels nearly weightless yet keeps you warm from travels to trails.

Read on for a look behind the design.

Performance Meets Planet

Ask any traveler, backpacker, alpinist, or anyone crazy enough to measure their pack in grams - every piece of weight matters. Countless hours of design went into making the Mayu lighter than anything else on the market while always prioritizing ethical materials and sources, because we wanted to build a piece that had no tradeoffs.

  • Extremely Lightweight: At around 7oz for the vest and 9oz for the jacket, it weighs next to nothing. That's less than most people's lattes and one less thing to worry about when getting your pack together.
  • Unbeatable Alpaca Warmth: PAKAFILL® insulation overperforms when you need it most, achieving a CLO value (the industry standard for measuring clothing warmth) of 1.6. Details like an interior cinch system at the jacket hem keep heat from escaping.
  • Recycled Materials: Built with a recycled nylon shell and lining without any intentionally added PFAS, it's wind and weather-resistant. Plus, it layers perfectly in case you need to slip it under a waterproof shell.
  • Built for Movement: Designed with set-in sleeves for easier movement and reach, along with two convenient front zip pockets that open with ease, even with gloves on.
  • Function Over Fluff: Small but intentional details like using a kissing welt zipper instead of a bulky storm flap and lightweight cord locks and zipper pulls cut down on weight without giving up durability.
  • Pocket Packable: Both the jacket and vest can be packed into the interior chest pocket, taking less space in your pack and making a great pillow for camping or travel.

Putting Mayu to the Test

To launch this new collection, we’ve partnered with hikers, travelers, and even paragliders to put Mayu to the test where weight matters most. Follow along at @paka to see their adventures this fall.

“The jacket was surprisingly just as warm as my 800 fill down jacket, while being more breathable as well. It didn’t restrict my movement, and I could hardly tell I was wearing it.”

~ Michael Niedrich, Paraglider

Powered by PAKAFILL®

This isn't our first jacket to use our PAKAFILL® insulation (check out the Apu collection), and it certainly won't be our last. Its performance speaks volumes, and the science backs it up with PAKAFILL® testing warmer than any synthetic insulation. And more than that, it's sourced from free-roaming alpacas in the Andes, eliminating the cruel practices of goose feather down.

We recently received our very first patent for PAKAFILL®, which was an amazing moment in the history of our brand. Thank you to our community for supporting PAKAFILL® over the past couple years.

PAKAFILL® has ½ the volume of down due to its uniquely structured hollow air pockets, which increase the fiber’s thermal retention while allowing for increased ventilation - keeping the material light, warm, and dry.
